The National Association of Concessionaires (NAC) has unveiled the logo that it will use for its Menu Labeling Assistance Initiative (MLAI). The program is in response to the final rule on Food Labeling: Nutrition Labeling of Standard Menu Items in Restaurants and Similar Retail Food Establishments under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) recently announced by the FDA. Compliance with these new mandates must take place by December 1, 2015.

The NAC leadership and the Government Relations Committee have been in contact with NATO, NAMA and IAAPA to determine how they interpret the new regulations and to plan to work together throughout this process.

The MLAI program is currently being developed to assist our members. Details of the initiative are in process, but NAC will be available with dietetic and legal counsel to make the mandates more tolerable. We will be working with manufacturers, digital signage companies and theatre and food service operators to develop a template and a process for all to use.

In addition, NAC will conduct workshops at CinemaCon (April 20-23, Caesars Palace, Las Vegas) and the NAC Concession & Hospitality EXPO (July 21-24, Hyatt Regency and Duke Energy Convention Center, Cincinnati) to assist NAC members in complying with the new regulations. Exact times and locations are yet to be determined, but will be announced.

An FDA Menu Labeling Fact Sheet and complete text of the FDA Food Labeling Document are available on www.naconline.org.
