Mike Hurley owns a movie theatre in Houlton, Maine. You may recognize the name from Bigscreenbiz.com, his writing for Screentrade Magazine or articles on Indiewire.com. Hurley is hosting an essay contest to find the new owner for the historic Temple Theatre in Houlton, Maine. Here is how it works: 250 words, $100.00 entry fee, and minimum is 3500 essays. If the minimum is reached, the first prize of the theatre and property includes $25,000.00 cash to get the wheels rolling.

This is a fully operating digital two screen movie theatre opening films on the break and showing first run films like Mockingjay, Star Wars, and others.

Do you know someone who’d love to own a theatre but can’t afford it? Here’s their chance. Or maybe you’ve always wanted a theatre of your own? Would you like to live in a small town? Houlton is a quiet county seat in the north of Maine. If you have always wanted to see a moose or a bear, this is the place.

According to Hurley, the theatre does good business. There is a full second floor of leased office space and a large owners apartment with a big adjacent parking lot. Take a look at the links below and see all there is to know.
