C. Cretors & Co., the popcorn machine maker extraordinaire, is bursting out of Chicago.
The more-than-century-old family-owned company said it plans a move to west suburban Wood Dale. The company is closing on a property this month and expects to move at the end of the year, President Andrew Cretors said.
“It was a tough decision and still is,” he said. He said the popcorn-machine maker had hoped to stay in Chicago, but after a year of looking it came up short on a space that was available for purchase and large enough for the growing company.
Cretors’ founder, Charles Cretors, patented the technique of popping corn with oil and unveiled the world’s first commercial popcorn machine in 1893 at the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
