NAC Seminar – How is the Evolving Conventional Concession Menu Affecting the Overall Profitability of the Cinema
(Palace Ballroom II)
This study presents the results of an online survey of moviegoers in the U.S. on their tendency to upgrade their concession purchases as newer options become available such as: extended menus, specialty items and dine-in opportunities. The focus of the research is the assessment of the impact of cannibalization of traditional concession items on theater profitability as some of the moviegoers transition to upgraded menu options as they become available. The influence of the socio-demographic characteristics of the moviegoers such as age, gender, income, etc. is also presented.
