NAC Names FIU Endowed Chair for Shelley Feldman
The National Association of Concessionaires (NAC) and The Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Florida International University (FIU) will honor the legacy of the late Shelley Feldman by naming The Shelly Feldman, NAC Endowed Chair after the industry icon and former NAC Director of Education.Dr. Joel Feigenheimer, a former restaurant industry executive, will hold The Shelley Feldman, NAC Endowed Chair for 2020.
“FIU seeks out industry partnerships to provide experiential learning for our students. NAC is such an organization that highlights an entire industry niche that heretofore has been under-marketed to our students”, said Feigenheimer. “We are pleased to offer multiple opportunities across a wide range of industry options to our students. It is by highlighting these career choices to our students that we will continue to provide a growing, progressive and forward thinking training ground for future industry leaders.”
Feldman, who passed away in May 2017, had been an active NAC member since the 1960’s and served as 1973 NAC convention program co-chair. He served on the NAC Board of Directors as a Vice President, President and Chairman of the Board in the 1980s.
NAC would not be the organization it is today without the remarkable efforts Feldman performed in his years as Director of Education, which began in 1990, and his promotion of the value of the Certified Concession Manager (CCM) program. He was passed the CCM baton from Mickey Warner, the father of program, and was the instructor of the program until his retirement in 2010. Larry Etter, CCM, has continued the tradition ever since.
In 2002, Feldman was the first recipient of the NAC Mickey Warner Award for accomplishments and contributions to the development, education quality and professionalism of the concessions industry in non-theatre concessions. In 2010, Feldman received the prestigious Bert Nathan Memorial Award. The award is given by NAC each year to an individual to recognize leadership and significant accomplishment in the theatre concessions industry. He is one of only a few individuals to hold both these distinctions.
